Dandyflowers & Dandyflowers - Laura's Diaries

Writing Dandyflowers & Dandyflowers - Laura's Diaries was a labor of love!  Never did I think that Jerry & Laura's story would affect so many people in the way it has. 

I have gotten to meet some really great people; a few were even turned into characters for the second book.  I have received many wonderful compliments about the story and now it's time to let Jerry & Laura; two fictional characters, help a very real little girl. 

Her name is Emilee Hendricks & she has had to go through more in her short nine years than most of us will if we live to be a hundred.

When I clicked on the link I was immediately reminded of the movie "Jerry Maguire" and its  two very memorable lines!

“You had me at hello.”

That’s what immediately came to mind after seeing Emilee’s picture.  (What can I say; I’m a sucker for strawberry blondes!)

Emilee is a nine year old girl from Richmond, Missouri who has a very rare genetic disease called Protein Surfactant C Deficiency.  She is constantly short of air  because her lungs do not “grab” the oxygen like other people’s lungs do.  Her only hope for anything close to a normal life is to have a double lung transplant. 

"Show me the money!"

Like Cuba Gooding Jr.'s character, that is what I want - "Show me the money!", but unlike his character I don't want any of it for myself.

Until July 31, 2010 I am donating ALL profits from the sale of Dandyflowers & Dandyflowers - Laura's Diaries to Emilee by way of the Children's Organ Transplant Association (C.O.T.A.) to help with the non-covered costs associated with her procedure. 

My goal is to sell 5,000 copies of each book. Yes, that's a total of 10,000 books and it is a lofty goal, but it can be done.

Reaching that goal will raise in the neighborhood of $50,000 for a little lady who deserves a chance to run and play with her friends without being chronically fatigued and short of air.

Emilee is a neat young lady who likes country music (especially Taylor Swift or so I've heard) and is quite the baker!  I am told that her brownies are some of the best around!
